FC Amsterdam was a Dutch football club based in Amsterdam, formed from a merger between Blauw-Wit and DWS in 1972. The professional department of De Volewijckers later integrated into the club as well. With the iconic Olympic Stadium as their home ground, FC Amsterdam played in a white shirt and red shorts kit. The club enjoyed a successful start boasting several high-profile players, but following the sale of key talents and relegation in the 1977-1978 season, a sporting decline set in. Although FC Amsterdam experienced some magnificent nights – notably defeating Internazionale in the UEFA Cup on their own pitch – the curtain finally fell in May 1982. In later years, plans emerged for a potential comeback under the name Amstelland United, which eventually rebranded back to the historic FC Amsterdam in August 2011.
