NK Kovinar Maribor

NK Kovinar Maribor (Nogometni klub Kovinar Maribor) was a historic and deeply respected football club based in the Tezno district of Maribor, Slovenia. Founded on 25 May 1947, the club grew with the passionate backing of local industrial workers in the post-war era. For decades, Kovinar Maribor was a stalwart of the Slovenian Republic Football League, playing a vital role in local football by supplying quality players and kit to NK Maribor. Most famously, our youth academy helped shape the early steps of Slovenian football legend Zlatko Zahovič on the pitch. Although we never reached the Slovenian top flight post-independence and had to close our doors in 2006 due to financial struggles, the club’s proud heritage, community spirit, and contribution to youth development remain a treasured chapter in Slovenian football history.
