RKVV Rood Wit is a football club with a proud tradition from Groesbeek, in the Bredeweg parish, founded shortly after World War II on 31 August 1945. The idea came from five founders who wanted to create a team more connected to the local community than their sister club, Groesbeekse Boys. Initially called G.V.C. (Groesbeek Football Club), the club was soon renamed Rood-Wit after a celebration evening. The colour red symbolises passion and love for the game, while white stands for purity and sportsmanship. Although the KNVB initially refused to recognise the club and suggested a merger with Groesbeekse Boys, Rood Wit was eventually recognised as an independent club in 1952, becoming R.K.V.V. Rood Wit – a Roman Catholic football association. The early facilities were very modest: the first pitch was narrow, with one goal placed near the main Bredeweg road, and changing rooms were located in the Kamps family café, which also served as the clubhouse. Players had to wash using buckets of cold water. In 1968 the first wooden canteen was built, later replaced in 1985 by the current clubhouse at Kapittelland. Training sessions initially took place in the café, sometimes even without a ball, but the dedication and passion of the players and staff built the foundation for the club’s growth. In 1946 the first youth team was formed, allowing children from twelve years old to play football. The nickname “Snorrenclub” (“The Moustache Club”) arose because several board members, including Hent Thijssen and the Cüsters brothers, had prominent moustaches – which later became a club symbol. The 1960s were golden years, with three consecutive championships between 1965 and 1968 and memorable matches against Overasselt and GVA Doornenburg that drew huge crowds. Thanks to Mattus Wijers, who started the youth department in the early 1960s, the youth academy flourished. Over the decades, countless volunteers have kept the club alive, giving their time and passion to football. Their dedication made Rood Wit what it is today – a warm and proud community club that has been the heart of Bredeweg for more than 75 years. RKVV Rood Wit remains a true symbol of Groesbeek – born from passion, grown through love for the game, and ready to continue for the next hundred years.
