DRL (De Rotterdamse Leeuw) is a Dutch amateur football club based in Rotterdam, South Holland.
Founded on July 14, 1929, the club plays its home matches at the “De Leeuwenkuil” sports complex on Spinozaweg in Lombardijen.
The club’s origins trace back to the Tarwewijk area, where it started under the name Rood-Zwart. In its first year, DRL immediately became champions and the strongest team in South Holland, but financial constraints prevented them from competing for the national championship. The club then joined the Rotterdam Football Association (RVB), a regional affiliate of the KNVB, and changed its name to De Rotterdamse Leeuw (DRL), while keeping its red-and-black kit.
In 2011, DRL took under its wing the struggling club RVV Hillesluis, which was eventually fully integrated into DRL after RVV Hillesluis was dissolved on June 17, 2012.
As a proud Rotterdam football club, DRL continues to fulfill its role as ‘The Rotterdam Lion,’ aiming to grow and strengthen its position within Rotterdam’s football community.
